As the name suggests, a dental bridge bridges the gap created by one or more missing teeth. It’s a dental restoration typically consisting of two or more crowns covering the teeth on either side of the gap.
These anchoring teeth are called abutment teeth. Between them, your dentist attaches false teeth, or pontics, to fill the open space.
Dental bridges can be made from various materials, such as gold, alloys, porcelain, or a combination. The choice of material often depends on the location of the missing tooth, aesthetic considerations, and cost.
Dental bridges in Fredericksburg, are a popular choice for restoring smiles and functionality.
Four main types of dental bridges are available in Fredericksburg, .
The type of bridge your dentist recommends will depend on the strength and health of the surrounding teeth and the location of the gap.
The process of getting a dental bridge near you involves several steps, which typically span at least two visits to the dentist. Let’s review the steps of getting a dental bridge in Fredericksburg, .
During the initial consultation, the dentist will examine your oral health. This includes checking the health of your gums and other teeth to ensure they can support a bridge. If the surrounding teeth are strong enough, the dentist will prepare them by recontouring these teeth to allow room for a crown to be placed over them.
Of course, if you’re getting an implant-supported dental bridge, your dentist will check your jawbone to ensure it can support a dental implant. If not, they may recommend a bone graft or alternative dental bridge option.
The dentist will then make impressions of your teeth, which serve as a model from which the bridge, pontic, and crowns will be made.
Once your dental bridge is ready, the next step is fitting. During this visit, your dentist will carefully check and adjust the bridge to achieve a proper fit. The dentist then fixes the bridge into place with a special adhesive.
If you’re receiving an implant-supported dental bridge, the dentist will place the implants in your jawbone first. You’ll then wait several months for the implants to heal and fuse with the bone. You’ll then return to have the abutments and crown attached.
It’s important to note that creating a dental bridge is highly customized to ensure a comfortable fit and a natural look.

My husband and I moved to Fredericksburg and were looking for a dentist. Husband needs sedation dentistry due to dental trauma experienced in childhood. Few dentist will do sedation dentistry but Dr. Cox will. So now we have been going to Dr. Cox for about 3 years. My husband has had many procedures and he is very pleased. I had only had teeth cleaning until……an emergency - a painful cracked tooth! Dr. Cox and team really came through for me. They got me in for a consult same day and next day scheduled the work. An implant was a possibility if the damages were too severe but fortunately that was not required. On the day of the procedure, Dr. Cox performed a root canal, prepped the tooth for a crown and installed a permanent crown. I walked out in two hours, problem solved! I am grateful and well pleased with this dentist office and Dr. Cox. Also, the office is clean, well run, and the staff is friendly. One improvement that is needed and I hope they are working on it, is getting the parking lot repaired/resurfaced - it’s hard to avoid the holes.
I have been a patient of Drs Cox and Wilkerson for many years. I've received nothing but the best care. I trust them completely with all of dental and ortho care. In a nutshell, First Class Drs., First Class staff, and First Class office environment. Get down there to see them right away!!
